Ampthill Town Yth V Toddington Rovers (A)

10.30am K.O

First Half;

Ampthill get the game under way, both teams settle early and look relaxed on the ball, more so Toddington who start to put some good moves together and threaten to score early in the game. Alex come close just shooting past the post along with Eddy who also shots just wide, minutes later. The boys look relaxed and composed very early in the game.

The boys gain a corner with 15 mins gone. The ball is whipped in, Jack comes close with a header just over the bar. That was close to the opening goal .Twenty mins gone in the first half. With Toddington dominating the game, we finally score. A mistake from an Ampthill throw in, Eddy collects the ball and drives at the Ampthill keeper, his shot is blocked, but Alex is there to poke the rebound in the back of the net 1 – 0 Toddington.

Ampthill restart the game, Toddington close them down quickly and threaten to score again. Ampthill regain them selves and set up an attack, which is rebuffed by the Toddington defence with the boys talking to each other and playing some fantastic football, the first half ends with Toddington leading 1 – 0.

Second Half:

Toddington get the second half under way from the centre, But Ampthill come out strong second half and hit Toddington with a early counter attack which leads them to scoring from a shot that bounces awkwardly for Rajan and lands in the back of the net. The boys look shocked at the equaliser but rally together and get the game back under way from the centre with 5 mins just gone in the second half.

Toddington get them selves back in to the game and the way they played in the first half with some great football from the back to front, all the boys working hard for each other. A real joy to watch, at that the boys get a second goal from a corner whipped in by DJ deep into the box , Eddy with a powerful header past the keeper puts Toddington 2 – 1 up with 15 mins gone in the second half.

Ampthill kick off from the centre again and lose the ball almost from the start, with the Toddingtons midfield running rampant now set up another goal scoring chance, but Alex shots wide of the post. Ampthill are feeling the pressure now with more of there passing going a stray. Toddington winning the second ball and look hungry for the victory push on, 20 mins gone DC makes a great run down the right wing and crosses the ball high into the box for Oscar to score with a tap in which finally comes off the last defender, but the ball was going in anyway. 3 – 1 to Toddington.

Ampthill get the game back under way, but look down beat by the result. Toddington show no letting up and push for another goal. In the dying minutes, with the move of the match, it comes. Peter wins the ball in midfield, a swift pass to his right to DJ, who in turn plays Oscar down the wing. Oscar lays the ball off to DC, DC plays a great ball into the box for Ollie to tap in. Great goal, great move to finish the game off 4 – 1 .

Man of the match: well all the boys deserve it today, they all did there bit in the game, played wonderful football, linked up well, supported each other in attacks, back tracked to cover others, they did it all, a real pleasure to watch.

4th October 2009.

Toddington Rovers (A) V Luton Utd

League Cup 1st Rd

10.30 am KO

First Half:

Luton Utd kick off the first half from the centre. Both teams find it hard to pass the ball around and gain control over one another as they both look nervy in the first 5 mins of the game.

Toddington find it tough going, Luton Utd are putting up a wall of players thru the middle of the park closing our midfield down every time we get control of the ball - 20 mins gone Toddington finally get a shot at goal, with Ollie just shooting past the post.

Luton seem to gain some composure and have a go at Toddington with a few sloppy corners given away by the boys, but come to nothing thru some good defensive headers away from the Toddington goal area. Both teams battle it out in the centre of the pitch, but cancel each other out thru some good defending from both teams. Toddington end the half on a high coming close with a good few chances going begging. Half time 0 – 0

Second Half:

Toddington get the second half under way, with more attacking in their style, and threaten almost from the start with Eddy coming close with a shot just past the post. Luton seem to be more nervy this half and give the ball away too easily. Toddington have a good 10 minute spell, attacking Luton’s penalty area, but fail to score. Luton regain their composure and set themselves up with a few chances in the Toddington area.

Toddington get back into the game with 20 mins gone of the second half the boys get the break they have been waiting for, with a slick move down the left wing. Oscar puts a great cross into the box, Luton fail to deal with the threat, the ball bounces around the box, and with a thumping header from Peter just inside the Luton penalty area heads the ball past the Luton Keeper. 1 – 0 Toddington.

Luton restart the game, and put Toddington under pressure from the restart, but the attack is dealt with. Toddington clear their lines, playing the ball back up field; Eddy collects a loose ball, he breaks thru, and ends up just shooting wide of the post, a second goal would have settled the boys for sure. The last 5mins of the game are a joy to watch. The boys seem to do everything right and click, with some great passes and movement they create many a chance.

The final whistle goes to the relief of the boys and Bill, Toddington thru to the next round of the cup, but only just with the one goal taking us thru.

Man of the match: Peter Hillier - Pete has come on leaps and bounds since last season, Pete played some great football today, linking up well with midfield and some great runs down the wing, plus scoring the only goal of the game with his head. A great match winning performance. Well done Pete keep it up.

AFC Kempston Colts (A) V Toddington Rovers (A)

U12s

K.O 10.30am

First half:

AFC get the game under way from the centre, and put Toddington under the cosh from the outset, coming close to scoring in the first two mins of the half, Rajan keeps AFC from scoring early in the game with a succession of saves. Toddington look all at sea, as AFC continue to apply the pressure and keep coming back at Toddington.

After 15 mins of play, Toddington finally get the ball into AFCs box, DC with a great ball into the box from the right wing, DJ takes the shot, which just goes wide of the post. AFC come back at Toddington and with 17 mins gone go 1 – 0 up with a swift move down their right wing, ball played back across the box and is slotted into the back of the net.

Toddington get the game back under way, but loose control of the ball within a minute of the restart, and put themselves back under pressure from AFC with them forcing a great save from Rajan again tipping it over the bar as the AFC striker tries to lob Rajan. Great save from Rajan keeping us in the game still.

Toddington make a substitution - Peter on for Alex. AFC continue to attack, with the boys finding no answer to stopping them – this in turn pays off for AFC after 26 mins gone they go 2 – 0 up with a well worked move down the left wing. The ball crossed in over the top, to the far post, and is headed back across the Toddington goal, leaving the ball free for a simple tap in for the AFC striker for a first half 2 – 0 lead.

Toddington kick off again from the centre and apply a swift attack themselves, with Pete coming close with his shot just over the bar. With the ball, back in play from the goal kick the ref blows up for the end of the first half. 2 – 0 to AFC

Second Half:

Toddington get the second half under way from the centre spot, and begin to play some good football, with the boys linking up well, and connecting with passes and long balls around the pitch, thus creating some shooting opportunities in the first minute of the game. AFC re-group themselves and push forward. With another ball down their right wing, they pop the ball into the box. Toddington are all at sea again, and are caught ball watching again. With the ball bouncing round the box and Toddington unable to clear their area, AFC slot the ball home 3 – 0 AFC.

The boys look in shock after going 3 – 0 down within 3 mins of the second half, but restart the game egging each other on. The boys put some good moves together and create some shooting opportunities themselves, with Ollie hitting the bar from outside the box, and Eddy just shooting wide of the post. Toddington have a good ten-minute spell and seem to have settled down. However, AFC regain control and with 19 mins gone in the second half gain a corner. With the ball whipped in from the corner, Toddington fail to clear their box and with a suspicion of handball, the ball finds its way into the back of the Toddington net, the boys protest, but the goal is given 4 – 0 to AFC.

The boys get the game back under way from the centre spot, and continue to push for a goal, but AFC seem hungrier for the ball and first to everything. With the game settled Toddington take a few knocks from some late tackles, the ref seems to lose control of the game and gives nothing to Toddington. Just a bad day at the office as they would say for our boys, who have battled hard but seem to have everything go against them today. The ref finally blows for full time at the relief of the boys.

Final score: AFC Kempston (A) 4 – 0 Toddington Rovers (A)

Summary: my man of the match is Rajan, made some great saves kept the score line down and kept positive thru out the game, well done Rajan.

Toddington Rovers v Bushmead Rovers

Well sports fans, here we go again; another new season for Bill, Brian and the boys. With the boys stepping up to League 2 now, this years’ challenge will be a tougher test for them. I wish them all the best for this season; just enjoy your football lads. I think I say that for all the parents.

Toddington get the game under way from the centre, but B/mead seem to apply the pressure from the start. Toddington keep them at bay with some strong defending. An early corner from Bushmead is Toddington’s first real test, but they handle it well, clearing their lines.

With 15 mins gone, Toddington finally get into the opponents box and apply some pressure themselves. DC and Ollie linking up well down the right wing. DC puts a great cross into the box - Bushmead fail to clear the danger, Toddington keep the pressure on. The ball falls to Eddie, he takes a shot, which just falls wide of the post. Good effort from the boys, to get themselves back in the game, with Bushmead having most of the play in the first half.

Bushmead re-group after the 10 min onslaught from Toddington, and gain a free kick just outside the Toddington penalty box. Bushmead’s no: 11 comes close with the ball just clipping the bar, a great free kick even thou I say so myself. Half time 0 - 0

Second half: (Bill makes some tactical changes within the team)

Bushmead get the second half under way. Toddington look up for it this half, and attack almost from the start. A great ball from the midfield puts Alex through on goal but Bushmead’s keeper makes a great save from close range. Bushmead clear the danger. Toddington apply more pressure on the Bushmead defence, which in turn, they concede a number of corners and throw ins for Toddington- Bushmead seem to be rattled.

Toddington continue to apply the pressure on Bushmead, they look a different side this half. (What did Bill say to them at halftime?) Ollie wins the ball in the centre of the park from the Bushmead goal kick; he lays the ball off to DJ which in turn he passes to Peter (who has a great second half). Peter plays a great thru ball to Eddie. He only has one defender to beat, and he does with a quick turn of pace. He is thru and slots it past the keepers left for the ball to settle in the back of the net -1 – 0 to the Todd’s with 22 mins gone in the second half.

Bushmead look shocked and restart the game from the centre. Toddington continue to battle hard for the ball as Bushmead come back at the boys, but they hold out to the final whistle on a very close contested game between the two sides.

Man of the match: In my eyes the whole team, well played boys.
