Saturday 24th April 2010
Today we were away at Flitwick Eagles who needed a win in order to land the title.
We had 11 girls who put on an immense performance:
Ellie Meredith Evie Jackson Ellie Wood Kayleigh Russell Ella Swan Beth Wright Laura Jackson Charlotte Batcock Abi Stanford Taylor Hedges Megan Hopkins
The girls battled all game on a very big pitch in the heat. We had our chances but did a lot of defending also.
We were drawing at half time and went 1 down with about 15 minutes to play.
The girls dusted themselves down and got back on with the game.
Our heading was excellent.
We had 4 or 5 corners in succession but just could not score.
Final Score Flitwick Eagles 1 Toddington Rovers 0
Richard and Kate congratulated the girls on an amazing performance, the best they have ever played. MOM was a really tough call but went to Beth who gave everything for the team.
Many thanks to Jason for running the line and the parents / families for the excellent support of the girls.
We were all very proud of them.
Bring on Sandy!
Thursday 22nd April 2010
Tonight we had an away fixture at local rivals Westoning.
With Kayleigh just back from Germany and a couple of girls getting off their sick bed we had a full squad (apart from ET).
Taylor was our captain.
This is always a tough fixture, but the girls showed great attitude from the start.
Ella scored a great goal, lobbing the goalie from the edge of the box.
Before too long Abi impressed us all as she bull-dozed in a second.
Our defence of Evie, Ellie Wood and Kayleigh were excellent and Ellie M had little to do and was bored by half time....
Laura was superb on the right winning loads of tackles and using the ball wisely.
Jess was solid and dominated the middle, Beth battled hard and showed great determination.
Taylor held the ball up well and chased endlessly.
Charlotte caused problems with her pace and came close to scoring.
Megan came on and battled hard.
Half Time Westoning 0 Toddington 2
We started the 2nd half without Jess who was not feeling well and continued where we left off attacking the Westoning goal.
Ella galloped forward from the half way line beating 2 defenders before smacking a shot the goalie could only parry and Charlotte stabbed the ball in our 3rd goal.
The girls showed great character and excellent heading.
Westoning came back at us and had chances including one which Ellie M saved as it came off the bar.
They finally got a goal back after a strong run from midfield.
Ellie M made some great goal kicks and kicks out of her hands.
Taylor and Megan (which is Shearer and which is Sherringham?) Were unleashed and created opportunities. With Westoning threatening to score again we shipped Megan back into midfield.
Kayleigh came off after another ball in the face, she really had been in the wars tonight but gave 100%.
Final Score Westoning 1 Toddington 3
Kate thought this was our best team performance, she was not wrong!
All girls were candidates for MOM, special mention to Laura for probably her best game of the season, Beth for non stop effort and Evie who was invincible.
Taylor won the trophy as a result of her 2nd strong performance and excellent holding up of the ball
Bring on Flitwick...
Saturday 17th April 2010
Today we were away at Kempston.
With no ET or Kayleigh we had a squad of 11. Kempston were a player short.
A rotation system was put in place for right back. We took the game straight to them and all girls battled hard, but we could not turn our pressure into goals.
Ella took a corner which came out to Ellie Wood who smacked it into the goal from 20 yards. Magic!
Kempston fought hard but Ellie and Evie battled hard in defence.
Laura did really well winning her midfield tussle, Jess dominated the middle and Beth was superb.
Abi and Charlotte chased and created good chances.
Half Time Kempston 0 Toddington 1
The 2nd half saw more of the same with Ella coming close on a couple of occassions.
Kempston created chances but could not get past the Ellies.. Ellie M made a great 1 handed save and made some super goal kicks.
The deadly duo of Taylor and Megan entered the fray and gave a brilliant performance showing skill and determination and were very unlucky not to score a couple of goals.
Final Score Kempston 0 Toddington 1
This was our 1st win of 2010 and was well deserved. Kate congratulated all the girls, especially the "Deadly duo".
But for another magnificent performance in Defence and in attack the Miss of the Match was Ellie Wood.
Bring on Westoning!
Saturday 10th April 2010
We entertained league leaders Flitwick Eagles to Poplars.
With no ET or Kayleigh we drafted Abi into defence.
Despite starting brightly we soon fell behind as a shot crept around the post and past Ellie M.
We created a number of chances and Jess made some excellent throws but we could not convert them. Over the next few weeks we are going to work hard on this!
Flitwick got a 2nd just before the break. Ellie Wood was superb in defence.
Half Time Toddington Rovers 0 Flitwick Eagles 2
We started the 2nd half brightly and Ella came close to scoring after a strong run and chase.
Flitwick had a striker we struggled to control and we hesitated a little too much in defence. Before too long we were 4-0 behind.
As with the last game at Letchworth some of the girls seemed more concerned about their personal preference for playing position than what would most benefit the team. We lost our way as a result.
As a consequence Charlotte (our least experienced player) went into defence and performed to the best of her ability. Well done Charlotte!
Special mention also for Taylor who held up the ball well a couple of times until she had support for an attack. We conceeded a final late goal.
Final Score Toddington 0 Flitwick Eagles 5
Football can be a very tough game when you miss your chances and more so when all of you do not pull together and fight as a team. We have to pull together if we are to win our 1st league game in 2010.
Richard congratulated Ellie Wood for another superb performance, Miss of the Match went to Jess who had her best game of the season.
Saturday 20th March 2010
Letchworth V Toddington Rovers
This week we were away at Letchworth playing a team we had already beaten and who are below us in the league. This was a 9 a side game on a full size pitch.
With Beth as Captain we started brightly playing downhill and created lots of chances but could not score. Charlotte did particularly well using her speed and tenacity to battle past their defence.
At half time the score was 0-0
We started the 2nd half far slower on a heavy pitch and soaked up quite a lot of Letchworth pressure.
Letchworth scored midway through the half after some good passing by them and slack defending by us.
We woke back up again and drove forward trying to score but could not do it.
Final Score Toddington 0 - Letchworth 1
This was a poor result given our initial dominance.
Special mention goes to Ellie M who was back to her best in goal, Ellie Wood for excellent defending ( yet again...) and to Taylor who held the ball up well and involved others when she realised she could not beat their defence for pace.
Barbara picked MOM and this went to Megan Hopkins who showed great determination and tenacity. Well done Megan!
Our next league game is against the high flying Flitwick Eagles we will need to perform much better than today if we are to clip their wings!
Saturday 13th March 2010
Toddington Vs Sacred Heart
Brian Ritchie was our ref for this game. Laura captained the team following her recent good form.
We started brightly and created early chances against our opponents who are 4th in the league.
Sacred Heart found their rhytmn quicker and soon created chances, after last weeks heroics Ellie M took a little while to hit form.
Our defence was strong with Ellie, Evie and Kayleigh playing very well.
Beth was strong in the middle releasing the ball well for Ella and Laura.
However, Sacred Heart took the lead after a lapse by Ellie M., her 1st of the season....
Charlotte and Abi battled away up front and created opportunities with their pace.
Megan and Ellie T came on and battled away.
Half Time Toddington 0 Sacred Heart 1
We started the 2nd half with Jess upfront and she soon came close to scoring.
Abi scored but was adjudged (harshly) to have been off side.
However, we were not to be beaten, Abi then broke down the middle and coolly scored her 2nd goal in 2 games.
We had a succession of corners but could not get the winner.
Final Score Toddington 1 Sacred Heart 1
This was a well deserved result with all the girls playing their part against strong opponents.
Laura had another great game and Abi showed some of her potential. However, MOM went to Charlotte who showed great character, purpose and speed against much bigger girls.
This draw was our best result this season and shows we came compete with the stronger teams. Well done!
Saturday 6th March 2010
Away game versus St Martins - March 6th
We knew we were in for a tough game as our opponents had just won the league cup last week and were 2nd in the league.
True to form we were under the cosh from the beginning and our defence had to battle hard. Ellie M made save after save.
Our midfield tried to drive us forward with Laura doing very well.
From Ella's corner Abi scored, this was completely against the run of play. This was Abi's 1st goal for the club.
Taylor toiled up front and Megan did a good job in defence when she came on.
Half Time St Martins 0 Toddington 1 "Birthday Girl" Helen Wright gave the girls another motivational chat and sent them out for the 2nd half..
The 2nd half followed the same pattern as the 1st with strong defending from Ellie T, Evie and as ever Ellie W.
St Martins moved well and created lots of chances, But even when they got past our defenders they could not beat Ellie M.
We created few chances with Abi and Charlotte coming closest.
Beth was spotted heading the ball.....we just need to get all of the girls to copy her! St Martins finally drew level after breaking with pace.
We continued to battle hard and with 4 minutes to play we were still drawing.
However, a couple of defensive lapses allowed them to score 2 goals at the end of the game.
Final Score St Martins 3 Toddington 1
It is not often at the end of the game that the managers of your opponents immediately go over and congatulate one of your players, but Ellie Meredith had been the best player on the pitch and she deserved it.
Jane Wood gave the MOM award and although Laura and Ellie T had played very well it could only go to Ellie M for superb goal keeping.
This game and the match with Biggleswade has shown we can compete strongly with the best teams in our league. Well done Girls!
Saturday 13th February 2010
Today we entertained Biggleswade, the current County Champions at Poplars.
No ET and Abi so we had 11 players.
We started brightly and were soon in the game.
Ellie M was soon called into action and showed her ability. Oir defence was robust with Evie, Kayleigh and Ellie W making good tackles.
Biggleswade took the lead after 5 minutes after the Referee over ruled the linesmans flag for off-side after good attacking by our opponents.
However, this merely spurred us to play better, Beth battled, Ella created and Laura was absolutely om her game.
Upfront Taylor and Charlotte chased and competed bravely. We created chances but just could not score.
Jess and Megan came on upfront and looked lively, Megan played with great determination.
Half time Toddington 0 Biggleswade 1
Helen gave another of her Winston Churchill " we shall beat them on the beaches" motivational speeched and we got straight after Biggleswade in the 2nd half.
Jess showed good awareness and was causing the defence problems as was Charlotte who made some great runs and showed no fear against older and much bigger defenders. Jess had a shot parried by their keeper.
Ella went close on a couple of ocassions as did Beth who scooped just wide.
Most of the 2nd half Biggleswade had to defend and we pushed forward for the equaliser. Evie, Ellie W and Jess took some super throws but we could just not score despite coming close.
Biggleswade got their 2nd goal only in the last 10 minutes after a brave parry by Ellie M.
Again our girls came forward but we could not convert the chances.
Final Score Toddington 0 Biggleswade 2
Richard congratulated all the girls for an outstanding performance highlighting Megan Hopkins and Charlotte for best ever perfomances in a Toddington shirt.
We gave Biggleswade a very good battle but lost out only to their slightly superior finishing.
Helen thanked Jon Child for his excellent refereeing in an enthralling match.
This was the toughest MOM so far as all of the girls could have won it. Helen Wright wisely picked Ellie Wood for another absolutely magnificent performance in defence.
Well done to all the Girls!
Saturday 6th February 2010
Friendly at Poplars versus Woburn Lionesses
Helen was back as Manager today with Taylor captaining the team and Richard as referee.
We started brightly with Beth and Laura looking dangerous in midfield with good passing. Our defence of ET, Ellie and Kayleigh boomed the ball forward and Abi and Taylor battling away up-front.
We took the lead when Ella sprinted through and scored from close range.
Woburn came back at us and pulled level. For some reason Ella tried to stop their shot on the line (which had rolled along the ground) with her hand..... but it still went in...
Evie and Charlotte came on and for a spell we dominated the game, Woburn struggled to contain Ella who broke through for her second.
Woburn counter attacked and looked good on the break but Ellie M showed her class and blocked them out. Kayleigh defended very strongly and Ellie Wood defended well and moved the ball forward smartly.
Ella soon had her hat-trick after another break down the left.
Half Time Toddington 3 - Woburn 1
Helen gave the girls another of her motivational speeches somewhere over in the woods and the girls came out all fired up....
Charlotte came very close to scoring after a speedy break, just pulling it over the bar.
Ella bagged her 4th and then managed to sky a sitter after another good break then had a super shot and goal disallowed for offside..
Final Score Toddington 4 - Woburn 1
Richard congratulated the girls for a very strong all-round Team performance, Helen was particularly pleased with our movement and passing and looking up at key times.
Paula Hedges then picked Ella as Miss of the Match.
Saturday 23rd January 2010
We hosted Cranfield at Poplars after a 6 week lay-off. Charlotte captained our team.
Our girls started brightly and created the early chances. Cranfield went ahead after some very hesitant defending down our right.
Soon afterwards Cranfield got a 2nd as ET deflected a corner past Ellie M, these things happen.....
At half time the girls were still very much in the game.
The 2nd half continued the same way with us creating chances but not converting them into goals.
Cranfield broke twice more down our right and we were 4-0 behind.
Our girls got some comfort from a late goal from Evie who drove the ball into the roof of the net from the edge of the box.
Final score Cranfield 4 - Toddington 1
Overall a disappointing result, we have the ability to win these games and must keep focus throughout. Ellie W had a good game in midfield and Kayleigh strong in defence. Ella created a lot but must take her chances.
Miss of the Match was decided by Helen Batcock picking Evie for a very solid defensive performance and a richly deserved goal.
Saturday 12th December 2009
Today we hosted local rivals Westoning at Poplars. Our squad size was 10, the starting team was Ellie M, ET, Kayleigh, Evie, Laura, Jess, Ella, Ellie W, Beth and Abi who started as sub.
We began brightly and created good chances, Ella hit the post after breaking clear and we were unable to convert a number of goalmouth scrambles.
Westoning took the lead after some sloppy defending from a corner. We were playing well when we had the ball but not winning enough 50/50's...
Half Time Toddington 0 - Westoning 1
At Half time the girls were "encouraged" to go out and compete harder, talk more and win the game.
Immediately they upped their game and created chances. Jess, Beth, Abi and Ella all came close to scoring as we broke with pace and purpose. Our defence was very well organised and cleared the ball solidly and we competed strongly in Midfield with Jess playing near to her best.
Our 1st goal came as Ellie Wood chased down a defender who knocked the ball past their goalkeeper into an empty net.
Laura then coolly finished off our 2nd goal at the back post.
For the 2nd home game in succession Ella took a wicked corner that ended up in the net...she created a hatful of chances today.
Laura completed our goals tucking the ball away after a shot from Ella rebounded off the post, excellent follow-up....
Final score Toddington 4 Westoning 1
An excellent 2nd half performance, Ellie T, Kayleigh and Evie were excellent in defence. Laura used the ball wisely, Captain Jess dominated and Ella ran at Westoning.
Beth battled strongly and Abi chased and harried, both were unlucky not to score.
Finally, Ellie Wood was excellent in attack, midfield and defence and while all of this took place Ellie M was bored as she had little to do......
Helen had the unenviable decision to make regarding "Miss of the Match" as all 10 girls deserved it. Ellie Thomas was a worthy winner after a very solid spell in defence.
This was probably the best half of football we have played this season.
Next week we entertain unbeaten league leaders Flitwick Eagles, Ellie M will no doubt be busier....
Saturday 28th November 2009
We played in a Howling gale up at Stopsley. Playing into the wind 1st half we defended strongly and Ellie M was kept busy. Ellie W made several good tackles, Evie pumped the goal kicks out. We had our chances but it looked like it was going to be only 2-0 down at half time but they sneaked a 3rd in a very long 1st half!.
Second half we took the game to them but could not create / convert our chances.
Ella scored but it was disallowed by the linesman..... For going through the side netting, neither Ella nor their goalie saw what he claimed...
We pushed players forward but could not make it count. Sacred Heart defended strongly and scored on a breakaway.
Final Score Sacred Heart 4 Toddington 0
All of the girls battled strong today. In the wind and cold, Ellie Thomas did well especially in defence.
Miss of the match was presented by Jason Russell to Ella who had ran hard throughout and deserved her goal!!
Saturday 21st November 2009
Today we entertained Letchworth City Eagles at Poplars. Abi was Captain and Helen and Barbara were drafted in to manage the side as Richard refereed...
We started brightly and camped ourselves in the last third of the pitch. Chances came to most of our players but were not taken. Laura battled following up a shot with some strong heading. Ellie Wood however did take her chance rifling the ball high into the net, her last goal as a 12 year old!
Soon after Ella scored directly from a rasping corner.
Charlotte then tonked the bar.
Our midfield was strong as was our defence with Ellie M putting on another very good performance.
Half time 2-0 to the Rovers.
Helen gave a motivational talk, although Letchworth started brightest in the 2nd half, Abi (who was not happy defending..) showed her strength making key tackles and Jess challenged strongly.
Letchworth had several chances but Ellie M stood strong and Kayleigh made some important challenges.
Letchworth finally pulled 1 back with a strong shot that Ellie could only parry.
However, with Beth back in midfield we pushed forward and after pressure Ella jinked past a defender and crossed for Charlotte who lobbed the keeper.
Final Score Tooddington 3 - Letchworth 1
This was a very well deserved victory and all the girls played a role in it. Helen and Barbara did a great job and have now won both the games in which they have managed... Helen praised our strikers who doubled our goals scored so far this season.
Trish picked out Abi as Miss of the Match for a good performance in attack and defence. Many of the girls had their best game of the season.
Let's see if we can keep it going...
Saturday 14th November 2009
League Cup Quarter Final away vs AFC Kempston
This game was played in a howling gale and followed Friday night parties and the Harlington trip to France so we had some tired girls out.
We played with the wind behind us in the 1st half and took the game to a strong Kempston team who found it hard to break out of their half. But we could not turn advantage into goals.
Kempston broke with purpose and we were 2 down after 2 breakaways with excellent finishing. Jess who had battled hard in midfield thumped the ball from about 35 yards out getting her 1st goal of the season.
Before we could get all sqauare Kempston got a 3rd which just squirmed past Ellie M.
3-1 was a slightly unfair half time score. All of the girls including the subs had competed strongly.
2nd half we played uphill and into the gale, it was tough. Beth and Abi toiled hard up front, our midfield competed strongly with Jess playing her best game so far this season but our defence were immense.
Ellie Wood did well marking their number 12 with solid defending from ET and Kayleigh helping also. Evie was a pillar of strength making telling clearances, tackles and thumping goal kicks. Time after time Kempston attacked and where they did breach our defence they still had to get past Ellie Meredith who made some brilliant saves and showed bravery.
Kempston got 1 more goal.
However, our girls all battled strongly and even at the end we were pushing forward to try and get back into the game.
Final Score AFC Kempston 4 Toddington 1
This was a very good performance and if we had gone ahead to start the game may have panned out differently.
Lee picked Miss of the Match as Evie, a very good choice and her 1st win of the trophy so far this season.
Saturday 7th November 2009
Biggleswade Vs Toddington - County Cup
We started this game strongly and for the 1st 10 minutes most of the play was in their half.
However, Biggleswade then established themselves and found space and time in front of goal, we leaked goals at an alarming rate and were 5-0 behind very quickly. Our concentration levels and morale dropped.
A good through ball did enable Ella to spring the off-side trap and to then lob their keeper, a well taken goal.
At Half time we sorted out most of the issues and the team came out much more focussed and determined for the 2nd half.
Our defence stood strong, midfield worked hard and when we could get the ball far enough forward our strikers battled on.
Biggleswade did get a 6th goal near the end after sustained pressure.
Ellie Meredith in particular did well coping with physical and verbal challenges as did the rest of the team. Our attitude and balance as a team was much better.
Beth was excellent in right midfield and winning a towering header and showing good commitment. Miss of the Match was awarded to Charlotte who chased hard and was unlucky not to score near the end.
Final score - Biggleswade 6 Toddington 1
Saturday 31st October 2009
Today we hosted St. Martins at Poplars pitch. The full squad was available.
Ellie M was captain after recent strong performances.
St Martins settled quickest and looked very lively. Ellie was tested almost straight away and Ellie Wood was given the task of marking their best player, the # 11.
For long periods we defended valiantly with Evie and Kayleigh making good tackles.
Our midfield battled hard with Laura, Ella and Jess distributing the ball well and both Beth and Taylor chasing hard. Ella came closest to scoring with a shot from 30 yards that just dipped over the bar. Other chances came to Jess, Beth and Taylor but we could not score.
St Martins took the lead after strong pressure.
Elle T came on for Evie, Megan for Laura, Charlotte for Beth and Abbie for Taylor, all gave a good account for themselves.
At Half time the girls were fairly upbeat apart from Jess who was not 100%
The 2nd half followed the 1st and was very end to end. We had quite a few breaks and were unlucky not to score a couple of goals. Beth got an equaliser and for a few minutes we thought we might win.
However, the oppposition did not roll over and created good chances, Ellie was great as goalie making a series of good saves.
We made a number of changes and tried different formations but could not get an equaliser.
St. Martins got their winner with 10 minutes to play
Final Score Toddington 1 St Martins 2
Abbie did well today and Ellie M was very strong but undoubtedly our Miss of the Match was Ellie Wood who was excellent in defence and did well at set pieces.
Thanks to Stewart for a great job as Ref!
Bring on Biggleswade...
Saturday 11th October 2009
This was always going to be a tough game against the champions of last year.
Taylor was our captain.
Biggleswade got after us from the 1st minute and we spent long spells defending. Ellie M made a series of good saves to keep the score down, at half time we were 1-0 behind.
We started the 2nd half more brightly and competitively gaining quite a bit of position in the final 1/3rd of the pitch.
Beth continued her run of goals when her mum is not supporting by lobbing the keeper after a pass from Ella.
Biggleswade went very quiet (not just because Helen was missing again....) And for a few moments a turn up seemed likely.
However a harsh free kick was converted soon after.
Finally Biggleswade scored a 3rd goal after good wing play.
Toddington pushed forward but could not convert again.
Final score Biggleswade 3 - Toddington 1
A very good second half from the girls where we competed much better but the 3 best outfield players all played for our opponents.
Paula picked Ellie Meredith as MOM for an outstanding game as Goalkeeper, this was a great choice from probably the best player on the pitch. Well done girls...
Saturday 3rd October 2009
We hosted our neighbours at Poplars.
Ellie Thomas was captain.
After about 5 mins we went a goal behind.
The game was end to end and very competitive.
In the 2nd half we created lots of chances but could not score. Ella rattled the post with a pot shot but the goal would not come.
Final Score Toddington 0 - Westoning 1
Miss of the Match as picked by Frankie Jackson was Ella Swan.
Saturday 26th September 2009
Today we welcomed unbeaten Sandy to Poplars.
After some Jekyll and Hyde performances so far it was going to be interesting what performance we put on.
Richard was ref and with Helen Wright away it was eerily quiet.
Toddington took hold of the game straight away and Ella soon crashed the ball against the bar and breaking through.
We consistently caused Sandy problems as Ellie Meredith boomed the ball forward.
Laura came close after good work..
Ella then hit a corker from outside the box which again crashed against the bar.
She then played through Beth who coolly slotted away our 1st league goal of the season. The lead was well deserved with all players doing well.
When Sandy broke Kayleigh, Ellie W and Evie soon snuffed out the threat.
Jess continued to hurl in some great throw ins and we were unlucky not to scramble these in.
Sandy made a strong break and a well hit shot was saved by Ellie.
Charlotte, Taylor, Megan and Ellie T came on and we continued to dominate.
The 2nd half was much of the same with Abi shooting wide, Jess came close with a couple of rockets, Charlotte nearly scored and Beth again hit the bar.
Sandy created very little apart from a corner which hit our post and then the bar.....
We pushed forward but could not build on our lead.
Final Score Toddington 1 Sandy 0
This was without doubt the best performance yet by the girls, the heading was strong and attitude great by the whole squad, if we play like this every week we will prove difficult to beat..
Many thanks to Jason for being linesman and to Jackie and Barbara who took on managerial duties and did very well.
Barbara picked Beth as Miss of the Match for another storming performance.
Saturday 19th September 2009
Our 1st away game of the season was at Cranfield.
We started brightly and created chances. The game was well balanced. Laura and Ella attacked well down the flanks and Abi battled in midfield.
Our defence was strong with Evie, Ellie T and Megan doing well and Kayleigh making important tackles. Beth and Taylor tolied up front and created several chances against a well organised defence.
With the last kick of the 1st half Cranfield took the lead as they bundled in a throw in. Hard luck Ellie M...
Cranfield may have beaten us to the tackle in the 1st half but with good attitude we dominated the 2nd half. Jess brought some steel into Midfield and Abi ran tirelessly upfront. Ellie M made some good goal kicks and kicks from her hands.
Ellie W slotted in a left back and we battled hard. Our heading was good with Charlotte showing no fear with 5 or 6 good headers.
The game shifted from end to end, we spilt blood, sweat and a few tears had lots of half chances but did not take them on a small tight pitch.
Final Score Cranfield 1 Toddington 0
Jane Wood picked Miss of the Match as Laura for good play, passing and movement. Well done Laura!
I think we have just about sorted out our best team format, bring on Sandy next Saturday.
Saturday 12th September 2009
Kempston were our visitors down at Poplars. Toddington battled hard but were beaten by a stronger team who had clearly worked on their set pieces.
We were 2-0 down before we woke up, Beth then came close to scoring and an Ella special was just over the bar.
We competed well for headers but were punished by Kempston when they broke twice in the 2nd half.
The girls created chances but need to learn to take these. Kayleigh played excellently 2nd half defending strongly and showing bravery.
Lots of positives to take forward to next week and some homework...... We play them in the Quarter final of the league cup in a few weeks, we will try hard to win that game!
Helen Wright deservedly picked her as Miss of the Match.
Saturday 5th September 2009
Today we played Westoning away with Ellie W as captain. With no Jess or Kayleigh we had 11 players.
Despite having most of the play and creating most of the chances we were very unlucky to lose 1-0 to Westonings only clear chance.
Player highlights were: Ellie M - strong goal kicks otherwise quiet Megan H - good defending, strong tackles and clearances Ellie W - Strong defending and clearances, did well in Midfield Ellie T - Good defending and clearances Evie - Excellent throw in's and lots of good defending Ella - Great runs and tricks, unlucky when hit post Abi - Ran hard and got stuck in with tackles - good 2nd game Laura - Great wing plays, one - two's and crossing, one of her best games Taylor - 100% effort, good teamwork and unlucky not to score when she broke through and hit the post. Charlotte - Lots of effort, headed and tackled well Beth - Great game, created lots of chances and could have scored a hatful, one of her best games, unlucky with her penalty.
Off to Sandy Tournament tomorrow, should do well if we play as we did today.
Saturday 22nd August 2009
This was always going to be a tough 1st game at 9 a side against last years League 1 runners up, it was hot day and we played on a long pitch. Megan Hopkins was Captain and battled hard.
The Lions roared 1st and took the game to us but 1st goal went to Jess after good play with Taylor. Most of the match was a very even battle. Ellie M made a number of great saves and kept us in the match.
Our defence looked solid with Ellie T and Abbie looking like very good additions and Evie as reliable and consistent as ever. Ella, Beth and Laura all made good runs from midfield and when she came on Hannah added some steel.
Charlotte made her debut showing good athletic ability and determination. Ella took our penalty, her last..., and knocked it straight to their keeper!
EB Lions drew level setting up a very good last quarter in which we were unlucky not to win the game.
Final Score 1-1
Highlights were a strong team performance with everyone doing well, the new girls all did well and Ellie M was superb in goal.
