Toddington Rovers U7s v City Colts FC. 28/01/2012 The Colts visit saw another typically competitive match that the Rovers U7s are now becoming so accustomed to since the sharp learning curve of the early season. Much like the more recent matches this was a game that could have gone either way. If the Toddington boys are able to cut out a few basic mistakes they will be set to go on a winning streak. As a friendly game coach Darren wisely used the opportunity to test the boys in less familiar positions on the pitch. This was to both enhance their learning and to give us the chance to see if we are missing any previously untapped abilities. The Colts were a skilful side displaying good ball control and passing ability for boys so young. Skills that our boys are improving on each week. The game was end to end stuff which provoked a loud but positive reaction from both sets of team supporters.
The U7s have had to rely heavily on the goal scoring exploits of Julio Das Neves this season. So for Toddington Rovers the biggest plus to come out of the game was the performance of the debutant Finn Perry who was able to set up Julio for his goal and then capped of a fine performance with a goal of his own. A good through pass from Julio saw Finn holding off the attention of a determined defender going shoulder to shoulder. Finn using his strength and pace was able to stab the ball home past the on coming keeper. This game was an ideal warm up for the league match scheduled for next week, before the opportunity of a couple of training sessions in the weeks that follow.
Toddington Rovers U7's v AFC Brickhill U7's (League) 2611/11.
Rovers welcomed Brickhill for the first match to be played on their new pitch with dimensions it is hoped will be more suited to this age group.
This was a game in which Toddington seemed to struggle to find the flow that they had displayed in their previous match.
The game was not helped by the strong wind that Rovers found themselves playing against in the first half.
The Toddington M.A.D.s ( mums and dads ) that as ever turned out in good numbers, will know from experience that the boys will have to get used to such conditions on the Glebe as the winter bites.
Rovers found themselves under almost constant pressure from a large Brickhill side who used the reduced pitch size and wind to their advantage using long throws into the box. This served to produce many goal mouth scrambles broken only by the occasional foray in to the opposition half by the Rovers. It was only a matter of time until Brickhills pressure was to pay off.
Toddington's work rate and performance picked up in the second half. With the slightly lighter wind now against their backs Rovers were able to push forward more. The game continued to stay somewhat ugly and slightly fractious at times but eventually the home side were rewarded for their persistence with Julio Das Neves showing his usual consistency in front of goal.
This inspired Brickhill to push forward again with numerous sorties on the Toddington goal. Time after time they were thwarted by some excellent saves by goalie Jake Hickmott in a performance that justified the coaches faith in him, having impressed in the previous match. Despite Jakes agility and at times, bravery, he was unable to completely close the opposition out who were successful late on.
Despite Toddington failing to meet the performance they have shown they are now capable of, they kept going and remained competitive to the end with each boy displaying a great attitude.
Man of the Match - Jake Hickmott.
Dunstable Blues U7's v Toddington Rovers U7's (League) 12/11/11. A bright sunny day welcomed Toddington U7's visit to the Dunstable ground. Rovers start matched the brightness of the day as they pressed forward from the start of the game. Toddington looked lively as they worked hard closing down Dunstable high up the pitch and pushing forward every chance they could. Rovers efforts were not in vain as they were successful with strikes from Julio Das Neves. It was not one way traffic however and Rovers had to do there fair share of defending with their rock at the back in the shape of Charlie Davidson and some good keeping from Jake Hickmott who's improving distribution was instrumental in pushing his team forward and back on the attack. A good sized crowd watching loudly cheered their teams on encouraging both sides to keep up the fast paced competitive match. Something had to give and Dunstable were rewarded after a spell of good pressure on the Rovers rear guard. Toddington were not going to allow this set back to affect the confident approach they had already displayed in this game. No one demonstrated this more than Todd Reeves who was a constant threat to the Dunstable goal going close more than once in a man of the match display. The ref finally blew full time on what had been probably the best Toddington performance of the season so far. The boys were rightly very proud of themselves. Man of the match Todd Reeves.
Toddington U7 v Wing Raiders U7 (League) 5/11/11.
Q1 - Good stop by Toddington only a few moments into the match. Great save by Toddington’s keeper from a really good break by Wing. Good run by Toddington and a great try at goal but went wide. Good few attacks by Wing but no goal. Great attack from Toddington and good pressure but no goal. Wing scored
Q2 - Great chance of goal by Wing but went wide. A very even quarter with great runs from both teams with a good mid-field battle. Great save from Toddington’s keeper after a good run and effort by Wing. No score.
Q3 - Great save by Toddington Good run from Toddington down the line. Fantastic mid-field run from Toddington but no goal, Toddington player went past 3-4 players. Good defending by Toddington. Lots of mid-field battles and play. Toddington scored.
Q4 - Shot from Wing but wide. This quarter Wing were on top of the match but Toddington defended well. Wing scored.
Man of the Match : Most improved player Saul Baptiste.
Woburn U7 v Toddington U7 (Friendly) 22/10/11. A great overall match. Both teams were of equal ability and the match was of a very good nature as well. All the lads really tried their hardest and all of them are improving week on week. We had a Hat Trick hero in Julio Das Neves, with all our players contributing to this landmark event. Would invite this team for a friendly again as they reflect the Toddington Rovers way of running a club. We narrowly lost this match but it really could have gone either way and we took away many positives from this match. Man of the Match : our hat trick hero Julio Das Neves
Leighton Park Rangers U7 v Toddington Rovers U7 (Friendly) 8/10/11. Leighton Park Rangers looked and I have to say that they were a lot sharper on and off the ball than us, but our lads will learn from this I am sure as the weeks go on. Our players are growing week on week. Q1 - Leighton Park Rangers just came out a lot stronger than us, great saves from Ed meant though that it was just kept at the 5! Q2 - I guess it might seem a really odd thing to be saying as we lost this quarter but it was great defending by Toddington, great work guys!! Q3 - More great saves from Ed but unfortunately Ed had to come off with an injury and Liam came on in goal. Q4 - This was by far our better quarter, more confident on the ball, better passing to each other and also the lads were finding space too. Like I say I am sure as the weeks go on the play will be much more even and hopefully the results will too, good work though lads, don’t loose heart! Well done to all! Toddington Man of the match - Reece Evans.
Linslade Galaxy Barc U7 v Toddington Rovers U7 (League) 24/9/11. Q1 - Toddington started off slow and lacking in confidence. We were constantly defending and had trouble getting out of our half. Players were ball chasing and not finding space. Linslade scored twice with their number 5 looking useful. Q2 - Linslade scored another goal but Toddington had more possession and had a good shot saved by Linslade’s Keeper. Still not finding space, all 4 of our out players on the ball at the same time. Q3 - Move even section of the match, no goals scored. Our Keeper made some good saves and we started growing in confidence and finding more space. Q4 - We had the edge in the section, we scored 1 goal but it could have been 3 or 4 if it wasn’t for some excellent saves by Linslade’s Keeper. This was by far our best Quarter with player getting organised and having the confidence to run with the ball. We need to play like this from the offset, if we want to win these matches. Toddington Man of the match – Julio Das Neves.
Toddington U7 v Dunstable U7 – (League) 10/9/11. Q1 - a very competitive period, we were leading by the end, if we had taken all our chances we would have been up by 4 or 5. Q2 - Dunstable bought on their star player who played up front, he had a natural talent and is a polished finisher. Q3 - more balanced and our players were growing in confidence. Q4 - their star player came on again, this was an end to end hard fought period but Dunstable's finishing made the difference. The final score didn't reflect the game, we were very competitive throughout and our players worked very hard and showed good individual skills. With more confidence in front of goal and better positioning both on and off the ball the score would have been vastly different. It was a good effort considering this was our first ever competitive match.
